With a grant from the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, Salal + Cedar has been working with St. Clement parish to improve wildlife habitat on the portion of Coleman Creek that runs through their 3400 Institute Rd. property.
As of December 2018:
We developed a restoration plan in consultation with conservation biologist; 63 individuals from age 4 to over 75+ interacted with the site; Several truck-loads of invasive plant species were removed; Girl guides built bird, bat, and insect houses; Planted approximately 160 riparian and pollinator shrubs and ferns; 210 volunteer hours completed; 60 staff hours completed; A graphic artist designed a poster and brochure
In the new year we will:
Complete 40 more volunteer hours; Define paths; Plant remaining 40-175 wildflowers and herbaceous ground cover; Print and share communication material; Determine our capacity for Phase II: the Rain Garden Project
