Candlemas Celebration

Deacon Elizabeth will lead us as we mark the mid-point between winter solstice and spring equinox in the northern hemisphere. This is a layered celebration known variously as Imbolc, Candlemas, Lady Day, and Brigid’s day. The pagan tradition is associated with the birth of spring lambs. The Christian church celebrates the Presentation at the Temple when the infant Jesus is acclaimed by the aged prophets Anna and Simeon. And somewhere in between are the celebration of the goddess/saint Brigid and the blessing of candles for use in the coming year.
