Salal + Cedar Welcomes Deacon Elizabeth

event_note January 20, 2018

The Reverend Elizabeth Mathers, a long-time Salal + Cedar member, made a commitment to us in her retirement. She is drawn to the community by her relationship with watersheds: first, the watershed of chalk streams, woodland and farms in southern England where she grew up; since the early 80’s, by this watershed of forest, shore and ocean that supports First Nations, settlers and immigrants of our cities and suburbs; by an ongoing sense that this is indeed a watershed time in the history of the planet and humanity. From childhood, she has been nurtured by the seasonal rhythms of the Anglican Church and its incorporation of the natural world into liturgy and spiritual practice. We are very fortunate to have her.
