Live Nativity Script
An adaptable script developed by Salal + Cedar for our outdoor nativity play with farm animals. Some material from Starry Night Pageant by David Taylor.
SCRIPT
Interrupting Narrator: The four Gospels start at different points in Jesus’ life. John starts “in the beginning” at the dawn of time, Mark begins when Jesus was a grown man, and Matthew and Luke tell two quite different stories about what happened when Jesus was born.
Luke: The story of the birth of Jesus is filled with songs like a broadway musical. There are disreputable shepherds, lots of strong women, and a whole host of sparkly angels. But the STAR of the show is a young girl named Mary who says, “Yes,” to God.
Matthew: AHEM, the story of the birth of Jesus the Messiah is more of an action-fantasy film like Lord of the Rings. It’s got intrigue and betrayal, dueling kings, magicians on a quest, gold, a star, a chase scene, and a humble dreamer named Joseph.
Interrupting Narrator:Hey, I know a bible story about a dreamer named Joseph—(sings) go go go Joseph…
