Wonder Box Curriculum: PRIDE, WATER and RAINBOWS

Pride, Earth Day, Trans Day of Remembrance, Lent 1 Year B (Genesis 9:8-17, Mark 1:1-15)

Salal + Cedar Wonder Box Curricula are designed for multi-age groups with the intention of growing children’s love of God’s creation. They bring together inspiration and wisdom from Messy Church, Godly Play, and Forest Schools and encourage exploration of scripture and the more than human world through exploration and questions that are learner-focused. If at all possible, we encourage you to meet outside.

Before the children arrive

Convene the circle or room as is your usual custom

Prior to the participants’ arrival set up as many exploration stations as you are able to manage with the time, equipment and helpers that you have. Some can be messy and wet.

Focus Time with Words and Actions

You will need a blue cloth or scarf to represent water; a rainbow flag, scarf or stole; a clear bowl, a jar or jug of water, a spray bottle of water, and a large clam or oyster shell if you live near the ocean; and a prism or crystal. If you are indoors, or it is cloudy, you may need a light source like a small flashlight to make rainbows with the prism or crystal.
